Truth

Freemasonry is a system of morality and ethics taught through symbolism and allegory. It’s rites and ceremonies instruct its members to cherish the tenets of the “Brotherhood of Man, under the Fatherhood of God.” It is the oldest, largest, and most widely known fraternal organization in the world. Men from diverse backgrounds come together as equals and improve their character by applying the timeless virtues of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth to their everyday lives. Thus, becoming better Men and Ambassadors for Freemasonry.

Brotherly Love

The Bond That Unites All Masons

Brotherly Love is the first of the Three Great Tenets of Freemasonry and is a universal brotherhood of unselfish affection that transcends individual differences and social barriers. We as Ancient Free an Accepted Masons believe “It is the internal not the external” that makes a Mason. We believe that all men are created equal by one Supreme Being. We believe brotherly love is manifested in acts of support, encouragement, and forgiveness within the fraternity and extends to the wider community through charitable works and acts of kindness.

Embraces the principle that “it is the internal, not the external, that makes a Mason.”

Treats all men as equals, united under one Supreme Being.

Extends compassion, encouragement, and forgiveness within the fraternity and to the wider community.

Truth

The Foundation of All Virtue

Truth involves being honest with oneself and others, both within the Fraternity and in one’s personal life. Without truthfulness, there can be no foundation for trust and connection among individuals. Truth encompasses honesty, moral virtue, and a lifelong search for deeper knowledge and understanding of oneself and the universe. Truth or truthfulness is the foundation of all virtues.

Inspires honesty, integrity, and transparency in all actions.

Encourages continual learning and the pursuit of wisdom.

Forms the moral foundation upon which trust and brotherhood are built.

Happy Man

It is easier to tell non-Masons what Freemasonry is not. It is not an organization which solicits membership; all men must come to Freemasonry of their own free will and accord. It is not a religion, a creed, or religious order. It is not a charity but recognizes that the tenet of Relief as a foundation of love for all humankind and is the duty of a Mason. It is not organized for profit, and no member may profit from his association with the Fraternity, upon penalty of expulsion. It does not dictate to any man as to his religious or secular beliefs and is not a substitute for the connection of any man to his God. It is never a forum for discussion of religion, politics, or other partisan affairs. Finally, it is not a secret society as it does not conceal its existence, or its purpose.

Freemasonry seeks to improve all men who believe that there is a fundamental good in all humankind. Perhaps a more personal explanation of “What is Freemasonry” is best explained in this video.

Relief

Charity in Action and Spirit

Relief or charity is an expression of Divine Will and acts as moral compass, a fundamental part of Masonic life. Charity is not just the act of giving monetary gifts but the giving of oneself to care for one another. “Charity or brotherly kindness is said to be the chief of all social virtues and ought to be the distinguishing characteristic of every Freemason. Charity is devoted to the promotion of the welfare and happiness of humankind and not for the benefit of the individual. If charity is misapplied it ceases to be a virtue and becomes a folly.”

Embodies charity as an expression of Divine Will and moral virtue.

Calls each Mason to give time, compassion, and support to those in need.

Seeks to promote the welfare and happiness of humankind through selfless service.
